How do I prepare product data for a DPP?
Do not start by copying every available field into a new platform. Start by proving scope, applicability, provenance and ownership.
1. Define one product scope
Choose a representative product/SKU and document the manufacturer, economic operator, product category and legal basis.
2. Build the requirement matrix
List the applicable DPP data points, access/audience needs and any product-specific conditions.
3. Inventory current sources
Map ERP/PLM data, BOMs, declarations, certificates, technical files, test reports and supplier evidence to the requirements they support.
4. Separate Complete, Verify and Missing
This prevents unsupported values being treated as final data and creates a realistic supplier/action list.
5. Assign owners
Every significant field needs an internal owner and, where relevant, an external supplier dependency.
6. Prepare the structured handover
Export the data in a consistent machine-readable structure and document who owns identifiers, Registry registration, hosting/data service and lifecycle updates.
For current legal and technical requirements, use the Commission DPP portal and the applicable product legislation.
