EU Battery Passport 2027 checklist

A practical preparation sequence for the 18 February 2027 start date.

Scope

• Confirm EV, LMT or industrial battery category.
• For industrial batteries, confirm capacity is greater than 2 kWh.
• Define the product/SKU/individual-battery population in scope.

Responsibility

• Identify the economic operator placing the battery on the market or putting it into service.
• Assign the internal owner for accuracy, completeness and updates.
• Define any written authorisation to another operator/service provider.

Data

• Use the current Commission category-by-category guidance.
• Separate model data from individual-battery/use-derived data.
• Map each applicable point to a source and revision/date.
• Classify Complete, Verify, Missing and Not applicable explicitly.

Suppliers

• Identify externally owned evidence early.
• Request the document/source reference and current revision, not only a value.
• Track response, verification owner and due date.

Implementation

• Define the unique identifier and Registry responsibility.
• Choose the DPP hosting/service-provider route.
• Define the data carrier / QR process.
• Define lifecycle data ownership and update triggers.
